Darlleniad yn The Other Room Reading

January 22, 2018

Wel, dyna ni wedi trefnu ein dangosiad cyntaf! Roedd hi'n noson arbennig - ry'n ni mor ddiolchgar i bawb sydd wedi'n cefnogi.

Mae Gwawr wedi bod yn gweithio ar gyfieithiad Cymraeg o ddrama Chloe Moss Christmas is Miles Away, a'r teitl ry'n ni'n defnyddio ar hyn o bryd yw Man Gwyn Man Draw. Yn wreiddiol, mae'r ddrama wedi'i gosod ym Manceinion, ond gyda'r newid iaith, daeth newid lleoliad - i gymoedd de Cymru. Roedd y darlleniad yn gyfle i'r gynulleidfa glywed yr ieithwedd a'r acen arbennig yma. Dangoson ni dair golygfa o'r addasiad newydd cyn cynnal sesiwn cwestiwn ac ateb. Roedd y gynulleidfa yn garedig iawn wrth gynnig adborth adeiladol a ry'n ni'n edrych 'mlaen at fwrw ati i ddatblygu'r prosiect ymhellach.

Rydyn ni'n llawn edmygedd o'n cast ifanc. Perfformiadau graenus er iddynt gael tair awr yn unig i ymarfer. Her a hanner! Ni'n tybio bydd dyfodol disglair i'r tri yma...

Gruff Harries oedd yn chwarae Christie. Mae Gruff wedi bod yn actio ers blynyddoedd. Chwaraeodd ran Romeo yng nghynhyrchiad Theatr Genedlaethol Ieuenctid Cymru o Romeo and Juliet y llynedd. Mae e newydd orffen ffilmio Parch ar gyfer S4C. Eleni, mae Gruff yn gwneud ceisiadau am le mewn ysgolion drama.

Emily John oedd yn chwarae Julie. Daw Emily o Gaerdydd ac, ar hyn o bryd, mae yn ei blwyddyn gyntaf yng Ngoleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru. Mae Emily'n ymddangos yn yr opera sebon Pobol y Cwm ers sawl blwyddyn.

Aron Cynan oedd yn chwarae Luke. Ar hyn o bryd mae Aron yn ei ail flwyddyn yng Ngholeg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru. Mae'n dwlu ar chwaraeon ac yn gefnogwr brwd o'r Sgarlets. Yn 2015 bu'n cyflwyno'r podlediad Dan y Golau oedd yn dilyn Cwpan Rygbi'r Byd.

Siôn Pritchard oedd wrth y llyw yn cyfarwyddo. Mae Siôn yn actor adnabyddus sydd wedi ymddangos mewn mwy na 20 cynhyrchiad yn Theatr Clwyd, yn ogystal â gweithio gyda National Theatre Wales, Bristol Old Vic, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru a pherfformio yn y sioe hynod lwyddiannus Last Christmas yng Ngwyl Ymylol Caeredin, y Soho Theatre ac ar daith. Ymysg ei waith teledu mae'r cyfresi Saesneg Phoneshop ac Indian Doctor ac yn Gymraeg, Tir a Dim ond y Gwir ar gyfer S4C. Bydd ei lais yn hynod o gyfarwydd i wrandawyr dramâu radio y BBC. Yn ddiweddar bu'n gweithio ar addasiad Radio 3 o Three Sisters, August 1914 a'r gyfres Tsars of Russia. Mae Siôn wedi cyfarwyddo i Dirty Protest a dyma'i brosiect cyntaf gyda Criw Brwd.

Well, we've only gone and done it - we arranged our first showing! It was a wonderful evening and we're so grateful to everyone who supported us.

The room was crammed full with some of Wales' finest creative minds, many of whom are professional heroes of ours. It was wonderful to see so much support from the Welsh theatre scene, especially on a soggy Sunday evening in January!

Gwawr has been working on a Welsh-language adaptation of Chloe Moss' play Christmas is Miles Away under the working title of Man Gwyn Man Draw. Originally set in Manchester, in Gwawr's version the action takes place in the south Wales valleys. The reading gave the audience the opportunity to hear this beautiful accent and dialect. We presented three scenes from the play and then held a brief Q&A session. The audience were generous with their constructive feedback and we feel galvanised to develop this work further.

We are in awe of our young cast. Compelling and accomplished performances despite a mere three hours to rehearse. We are certain they have a bright future ahead of them...

Christie was played by Gruff Harries. Gruff has been acting for many years. Last year he played Romeo in National Youth Theatre Wales' touring production of Romeo and Juliet. He recently finished filming a series of Parch for S4C. This year, Gruff is auditioning for drama schools.

Julie was played by Emily John. Emily comes from Cardiff and is currently in her first year of training at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She has portrayed the character, Catrin, in the popular Welsh soap Pobol y Cwm for many years.

Luke was played by Aron Cynan. At the moment Aron is in his second year of training at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He loves sports and is a fervent fan of the Scarlets. In 2015 he presented a podcast called Dan y Golau which followed the Rugby World Cup.

Siôn Pritchard was our wonderful director. Siôn is a familiar face to Welsh audiences having appeared in over 20 productions at Theatr Clwyd, as well as with National Theatre Wales, Bristol Old Vic and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru. He also had enormous success in the highly acclaimed one-man show Last Christmas, which he has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Soho Theatre and on tour. His television credits include Phoneshop and Indian Doctor, as well as Tir and Dim ond y Gwir for S4C. He is regularly heard in BBC radio dramas, and has most recently been involved in the BBC Radio 3 adaptation of Three Sisters, August 1914 and The Tsars of Russia season. He has directed for Dirty Protest and this is his debut as director for Criw Brwd.
